What does it mean to be a comic artist today?
The industry has changed massively in the last 20 years. I grew up with ink, pen, gouache, acrylic paints and pencil. Nowadays, tools such as vector graphics and 3D programs are used for modeling and animation. Technical progress in the field of animation is unstoppable. But what digitalization and progress cannot replace are good ideas and a high-quality hand-drawn sketch with a pencil.
The traditional methods I used in my youth have a special place in my artistic development. They taught me the basics and nurtured my creative skills. Nevertheless, it is fascinating to see how modern tools have expanded the possibilities to create complex graphics and animations.
Advanced technology has allowed artists to bring their visions to life in new and exciting ways. However, artistic inspiration remains the key to any great work, and a simple pencil sketch can often mark the beginning of an amazing creative journey.
